Establishing a Web Presence with Figma Sites

With key networking events fast approaching, Abundance Labs needed a credible online presence...fast. This wasn’t about building the forever site just yet, but rather about making a sharp first impression that says we’re here, we’re established, and we’re worth your attention.

Enter Figma Sites: Figma's beta no-code website builder. With a quick turnaround and a lean, temporary landing page in mind, it felt like the perfect time to see what this new tool could do.

The verdict? Surprisingly great. Even without prior exposure to working in Figma Sites, our Figma skillset transferred seamlessly to the familiar workspace of the new tool. In less than a week, we had a polished, on-brand landing page live and ready to work its magic.

The Right Tool for the Right Jobs

Yes, Figma Sites has its quirks. Responsiveness can be a little touchy, and the generated code could use some refinement. But for getting a marketing site or landing page up quickly, without sacrificing good design it’s a bit of a secret weapon.

While it’s not quite ready for complex, multi-layered websites or web apps (yet), it opens the door for individuals and brands with simpler needs to launch something professional-looking without a mountain of development resources.

We’ll be keeping a close eye on how the tool evolves, and whether it earns a permanent spot in our workflow.

What is Figma Sites is good for?

  • Speed to launch: get a professional presence online in hours or days instead of weeks.
  • Interim / MVP sites: ideal stopgap while a full build is in progress.
  • Seamless design-to-live workflow: your Figma design translates cleanly into a working site.
  • Small marketing sites & landing pages: single-page sites, events, campaigns, or product drops.
  • Pixel-perfect brand fidelity: early brand expressions can launch exactly as designed.
  • No-code accessibility: empowers design/marketing teams to publish without dev handoff.

Where Figma Sites fall short (for now)

  • No Custom Fonts: does not yet support custom fonts, which can limit custom-branded feel (we created a workaround)
  • Complex websites: lacks support for deep CMS, blogs, or multi-level navigation.
  • Scalable publishing: not built for content libraries or SEO-heavy use cases.
  • Custom integrations: limited options for advanced forms, APIs, e-commerce, or marketing stacks.
  • SEO depth: basic compared to WordPress, Webflow, or Shopify.
  • Analytics & performance tracking: minimal compared to mature platforms.
  • Ongoing management: better for quick solutions than long-term site ecosystems.
  • Custom responsive layouts: auto-responsiveness can be clunky, requiring extra workarounds.

Caveats & Considerations

  • Learning curve — if you’re new to Figma (or not fluent in advanced tools like auto-layout), building can feel unintuitive.
  • Closest comparable tool — Framer offers a similar “design-to-site” workflow but shares some of the same limitations.
  • AI-powered web builders still have a long way to go (we haven't dabbled yet). If you're curious, these are at the top of our list to check out:
